How to import basic goods for your mipyme, step by step
What you need before your first order from Spain, and the steps in order.
1. An authorised import channel
To import you need your own import permit, or you buy through an authorised importer. MINCEX Resolution 126/2026 sets the rules for mipymes that import directly. Rules change, so check what applies today with your importer or with MINCEX.
2. What and how much to order
Start with products that sell fast and take up little space, like hygiene and personal care. Order at least one pallet (a full stack of boxes) of each product, so the shipping cost per unit stays low.
3. Ask for a price delivered to Havana
Always ask for one price that includes the product, the shipping and the papers. That way you can compare it with what you pay today. Remember to add customs duties and the costs in Cuba.
4. Payment and shipping
You pay in euros, before we buy, from an account outside Cuba. Then we buy the goods, load them into a shared container and ship them. It usually takes 4 to 8 weeks.
5. Customs documents
Your importer will need the commercial invoice, the packing list (list of boxes), the bill of lading (proof of shipment) and the product certificates. Cosmetics may also need a health registration.
6. Questions to ask your importer
Before you order, ask which documents it requires for your type of product, whether the product is allowed today, what label format it wants and whether it has any weight or volume limit. With those four answers you avoid most delays.
7. Common mistakes
Ordering too many different items in the first order, comparing only the product price without adding transport and duties, paying without a firm written price and not checking first whether the product can be imported.
